Student Group Travel Opportunities in South Africa

South Africa is a country of remarkable diversity, offering everything from vibrant cities and rich cultural heritage to breathtaking landscapes and unique wildlife. Further Travel’s Camp South Africa enables you to engage in meaningful community and conservation work. We have two separate itineraries, one that focuses on sports coaching and teaching, and another that emphasizes animal conservation. Let’s take a look at what’s included in both of these student group travel experiences.

Sports Coaching and Teaching

Sports play a significant role in South African culture, and there’s a strong focus on using South Africa football and athletics to promote education, health, and social development. Our sports coaching and English teaching program runs from 4-12 weeks, and no degree is required. You can choose either sports coaching or English teaching, or combine the two. This program includes:

  • An induction and introduction to the coaching and teaching programs
  • English teaching from 8 am to 1 pm Monday through Friday, or
  • Sports coaching from 9 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday
  • Evenings are yours—chill at the accommodation or explore the town

On weekends, more activities are on offer, and at least one is included in your itinerary. Choose from:

  • An overnight trip to Jeffrey’s Bay—a surfer’s paradise!
  • A visit to the Kragga Kamma Game Reserve
  • A trip to the world’s highest bridge bungee at Bloukrans Bridge
  • Dinner under the stars and traditional African dance group
  • Optional other activities like sky diving, shark cage diving, dune boarding, and more

Coaching is performed in small groups of 3-4 instructors, so you won’t be on your own! You’ll coach at a few different schools each day, usually short 30-minute sessions at each school. For English teaching, you’ll work with small groups of students, at 3-4 different schools each week. Learn more and apply here!

Wildlife Conservation

South Africa is home to some of the most iconic wildlife in the world, including elephants, lions, and rhinos. However, many of these species face threats from poaching, habitat loss, and climate change. Our animal conservation program is a two-week safari camp where you’ll live at a game reserve, work as a wildlife sanctuary South Africa volunteer, learn all about their conservation efforts, and assist with the rehabilitation of these precious animals.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore the 6,000-hectare game reserve, working from 9 am to 5 pm during the week. Evenings and weekends are your own—you can explore the city of Port Elizabeth, which is just a few miles away, or relax at the reserve. While you’re working, your tasks will include:

  • Game counting
  • Planting
  • Tree chopping
  • Reserve maintenance
  • Animal monitoring
  • Wildlife lectures

Through these hands-on experiences, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation and the vital role it plays in preserving biodiversity. Apply here for a summer with a difference!

Student Group Travel Opportunities in Vietnam and Cambodia

Vietnam and Cambodia offer unique travel experiences rich in history, culture, and opportunities for community engagement. Our Camp Vietnam and Cambodia is the perfect blend of vibrant landscapes, cultural exploration, and meaningful service projects. Traveling to these regions allows you to learn about Southeast Asia’s past while contributing to its future through hands-on community initiatives.

Community Projects

Our Vietnam and Cambodia student group travel experience has a big emphasis on community projects and volunteer opportunities for college students. You’ll be able to work in the local community by teaching English skills to children and getting involved with community development programs, including various construction projects that vary based on the needs of the community and the time of year.

One such project involves collecting plastic litter that’s perilously close to local rivers, and learning how to make eco-bricks—plastic bottles packed with used plastic at a designated density. These act as reusable building blocks, and can be used to make furniture, garden walls, and other structures in schools and remote areas.

Sightseeing

This 20-day summer program packs in lots of community projects, but there’s also plenty of time to explore your surroundings! You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Explore Hanoi with a walking and cycling tour of the city
  • Kayak through Ha Lang Bay
  • Hike through UNESCO World Heritage sites in Vietnam’s north
  • Visit Hoi An and do an iconic basket boat ride
  • Enjoy relaxing beach days and chill downtime with your new travel pals

You’ll also visit the incredible cities of Cambodia, including Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Angkor Wat. There’s fascinating history and culture to be soaked up here, and your guide will make sure you don’t miss a thing! Ready for this unique student group travel experience? Book your spot at Camp Vietnam and Cambodia today!
